Fiction

My short story "Waxahachie" won an Honorable Mention in the Texas Observer's 2020 short story contest.
Post-Nihilism
"Post-Nihilism" is a story about a professor who arrives in a new community, a giant windmill housing an entire city, and falls into a complicated relationship with a turbine technician. His lectures teach students how humans conceptualize themselves in the wake of ecological collapse. Put more poetically, it's a story about love and philosophy beyond the end of the world.
Daddy Lazarus
"Daddy Lazarus" is a serialized short story about a family grappling with the death of a despised father in a future when coming back to life is a common practice. Serialized as a paid email newsletter via Substack beginning September 2020.
Blood of Christ
"Blood of Christ" takes you inside a cult that's rejected the biggest medical advance of the future—permanent intravenous nano machines—and shows the drastic measures people will take to resist change. Published in Vice's Motherboard in November 2019.
The department of suicide
“The Department Of Suicide” imagines a world that's eliminated school shootings, self-harm, and bullying among children via a federal happiness mandate. Teens hate it. The story is part interrogation, part government press release. Published in Vice's Motherboard in March 2019.
Redlining At The End Of The World
"Redlining At The End Of The World" is investigative journalism from 2190—oceans rising fast, cities in giant plastic bubbles, and the most vulnerable people getting pushed out. Illustration by Zoe van Dijk. Published in Vice's Motherboard in August 2018.
